we stood in the snow
pure and simple
and I thought
said, “love”, even
as I watched the way
your poetic lips
around other words
that my ears
I stood in the snow
as the bare oak trees
in the cold bitter wind.
lips turn numb
’til words congeal
made of frozen breath
