Love Poem (Root, Stem, Flower)

Love like springtime,
a fresh warm breeze
after a month of rain.

Like holding the hoe-
handle in calloused palms,
fingers curled around wood.

Like opening a place
in the earth, a gash,
an unknitting of loam,
smell of worm and iron,
a bed put to seed.

Love like root
and stem and flower,
like it could grow this time.

Beautiful. My husband taught me how to hoe – I’d forgotten that. Thanks for the memories. 😉
