Mali

Timbuktu
is a hard place
now
where no one dances
or plays music
any more.

After the jihadis
burned the archives
one could still make out
calligraphy
in the ash heaps.

There are some truths
that are unsayable
but they exist nonetheless
in the way
that one grain of sand
and the whole desert ocean

are two aspects
of the same
eternal riddle.
