Why have the bioluminescent bays
of Puerto Rico gone dark?

The ecology of dinoflagellates
is a complex system with many factors:

Temperature, salinity, depth,
and, of course, absolute darkness.

It may be that light pollution
has driven the glowing algae away.

One way to kill a thing
is to love it too much, to shine

Your light on it and make it burn
or slink away into the shadow.
