Self-portrait, 2:40 a.m.

I’m lying on the redundantly hard floor

with the short-napped carpet insinuating
its pattern into my cheek and brow

and I feel my weight
at my hip bones and penis and knees

and also I am aware that ironically
I will not be afforded a short nap

if I am to finish this work
and who uses the subjunctive voice in English

any more, anyway?

  1. hey there,
awesome job! i related to it really well. the whole thing was great! 5/5. keep it up! 🙂

  2. I do! I love the subjunctive, although I didn’t know what subjunctive was until I studied Portuguese. Anyway, good poem. (Might want to fix the type-o “at short nap”.)
