Monday morning, the sun is shining
as my life limps along dragging complications
over the slippery surfaces underfoot.
This sun is Polyphemus unblinded
beyond the reach of the fire-sharpened stake
and I am the fabled Nobody.
It stares incapable of irony
and throws a hard black shadow
in my very form on the whitest snow
Except for the burdens I drag
which are only evident in the trail
I leave behind, a frozen mire.
