Winds of Caprice

Winds of caprice
push ice floes together

and apart, now too big a gap
to step across, only blue water

with the perfect image
of bright clouds and sky.

Even when I can’t
see you I see you, cloud,

bird, water, sky. Especially
the birds, raucous crows,

duck and drake, goose
and gander, etcetera.

Wanting you, on my ice floe,
everything melting.
