I am a man

I am a man

hungry and tired,

in the former, light

as a gape-mouthed

bird toothless & un-

fledged, in the latter

heavy to breaking

the cradle-bough.

I will take

what you offer

greedily and sated,

too weary to reach

for all the other worlds

that hang ripe

on the dewy filaments

of the night sky.

Peace, it is my only

desire and my only

gift and I would give

it, naked offering

that it may clothe me

holy, wholly and true.
