Tumbledown

You are the famous cat rescuer.
I am arching my back
brushing tiptoed around your legs
in figure eights suggesting infinity.

The most dangerous place
for underfoot entanglements
is the top of the stairs where
open bedrooms appear in full-

length mirrors. Sharp gasp and air-
borne tumbledown — life could toss us
like salad picked on your birthday.
You are strawberries, I am pumpkin pie.
